Community + Program Accessibility
Community Event Accessibility Information
We will have the following available at all of our synchronous community events (roughly one per month):
Captioning and Transcription (through zoom)
ASL Interpretation
Accompanying digital guide (Google Doc) with event and topic related information
Engagement via reactions, chat, or speaking (with or without video)
Event Recording (with Closed Captioning) available after the event
Our asynchronous content will generally be available in two formats, which are each formatted to be screen-reader, dyslexia, and sensory-friendly:
Online through our Community Resource Area
In a Google Doc
Creating Access Documents
Create an Access Document, if you have access needs, and email it to our Leadership Team at Hello@SociallyDistantArt.org. This document will help our leadership team create content and communication that fits your access needs, and better understand the access needs of our community as a whole. This is also good practice for creating Access Documents when working with other arts organizations and/or curatorial teams. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you need help with this process! (There is no deadline for this document, and it is not required, so do what is best for you!)
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Goals
Overall, we try our best to use Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles when creating and sharing content with our community. We aim to develop a level of access intimacy within the cohort, while also knowing that there will be incidences of access friction from time to time; given this, we acknowledge that UDL principles can’t address all access needs, and we are here to help remove individual barriers, as well.
Are you encountering accessibility issues as a resident of Socially Distant Art?
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to the Leadership via Slack or email (Hello@SociallyDistantArt.org) We are commitment to making SDA a equitable and supportive community, and welcome your feedback and suggestions for improving our program.
Please keep in mind that the SDA Leadership includes Disabled artists - we have our own access needs related to communication, time, and sensory processing.
