Artist Statement
Drawn by the ordinary and the unseen, I extrapolate from my daily life and surroundings - and overlap with archival research. My practice questions the construction of history - through the the study of society and its behavior and its connection to clothing, personal items, gestures and movements.
I am strongly marked by my upbringing in the Dominican Republic - living among it’s natural resources, culture and social reality, provoked a feeling of protection towards what I consider the most precious of the country- it’s people. My work gives visibility to marginalized stories by making a visceral connection through a tactile sensibility.
Artist Bio
Karla DiPuglia was born and raised in the city of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Her work gives visibility to marginalized stories by making a visceral connection through a tactile sensibility. She is trained in visual arts, ballet, jazz and hip hop for over fifteen years. In 2017 she studied Fashion Design School of Design Altos de Chavón in Santo Domingo and was awarded the Dean’s Scholarship to continue her studies at the renowned Parsons The New School in New York.
