Bio

Originally from Nipissing First Nation in Northern Ontario, Tessa was taught traditional Anishiinabeg (Ojibwe) beading and craft by her grandmother who encouraged her to embrace her heritage and her artistic spirit. Residing in Toronto for the last 12 years, she is alumni of OCAD University and George Brown College. As well as being a trained goldsmith and certified gemmologist, Tessa is a multi-disciplinary artist. Painting, drawing and sculpture are her passions and the root of her artistic curiosity which leads her to other mediums and materials. Her work explores the combining of traditional with contemporary elements, ranging anywhere from watercolours, beads and moose hide to 3D printing and rendering. Focused on traditional Ojibwe teachings as a basis of her work, she hopes to share knowledge and positivity by taking these teachings and messages to the community to encourage growth in others.
