Artist Bio
Yvonne Yuan is a Chinese composer and creative writer based in the U.S.. She studied composition with Richard Danielpour, Ian Krouse, David Lefkowitz, and Kay Rhie at the University of California, Los Angeles. She considers music as the language before languages were invented. Fascinating natural phenomena are often featured in her music, as she explores the sonic possibilities of the wonders found in her daily life, including her imperfect skin, the origin of the universe, and forests. She constantly takes inspiration from non-musical sounds, including the sound of rustling leaves, the beeping of morse code, and the beating of the heart. She composes for orchestras, chamber ensembles, and solo instruments; for professionals, and for amateur music lovers.
Yvonne’s music has been performed at Atlantic Music Festival, Oregon Bach Festival, and EAMA Institute. She was awarded “Best Female Film Composer” by Toronto Women Film Festival, 2021. Her work was selected as the finalist of the Morton Gould Young Composer Competition. She was on artist residency with Nomadic Soundsters from 2021 to 2022.
